With a new year just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how you might grow your practice in 2022.
Many people outside of the profession probably assume that the essential services nature can mean that clients and patients are in plentiful supply and that nothing much needs to be done to tend to the “business” side of running a practice. However, more often than not this is far from the truth!
So, as we launch into a new year, it’s that time for owners, partners and managers to start thinking about how they might further grow their practices in 2022. Here are five things you can do.
1. Have an engaging online presence via a great website
GP practices and law firms are not businesses in a traditional sense, but this does not mean in a digital world that they can get away with not having an online presence.
Your practice website is your digital face to the world – it is the foundation of any kind of marketing you do. And as people rely more heavily on search engines to find all manner of services they need, a website (and social media presence) looks likely to become the primary way of finding your practice.
This doesn’t mean you have to have a million-dollar website designed by some high-end design firm, although using these kinds of firms to help with your site if you have the capital is not a bad thing.
Luckily, we live in a world where even the less tech-savvy can build simple sites that will serve their needs via platforms such as WordPress and Wix. And to make matters even better, there are great plug-ins, such as appointment makers, that can be slotted in to ensure when people find you online, they can also secure an appointment.
2. Look at your practice through your client’s and patient’s eyes
Offering the best experience is crucial to both keeping ongoing clients and patients as well as attracting new ones, but thinking about this from their perspective is even more critical.
Ask yourself these kinds of questions:
How easy is it to make appointments?
How does the clinic present from the street? And how does it online?
What is the first impression when someone enters?
Do clients or patients need to wait long when they arrive for an appointment? What do they do while they are waiting?
Considering and addressing these kinds of questions and a raft of others about the experience could be the difference between your practice thriving or just surviving.
3. Use industry-best equipment
While the trusty old stethoscope and thermometer remain the most well-known GP tools, tech is becoming more and more a common part of GP practice.
This means that using up-to-date or cutting-edge technology in your clinic shows you are across all the latest developments in medicine (and therefore a leader in the profession) but, more importantly, that you also want to offer your patients the best care possible.
Similarly, streamlining the best technology for your law firm ensures a smooth and efficient operation during complex matters or busy times. It will greatly benefit with the organisation of the work and the potential time it takes to complete certain tasks.
4. Streamline front-office procedures
Another place where tech can help your practice grow is with your frontline staff.
As the face of your practice, ensuring front-office staff are able to do their jobs effectively and efficiently will mean the patient experience is vastly improved. Streamlining how these staff work via great practice management software, offering them ongoing training and eliminating cumbersome tasks that can be automated means they will be less stressed and in a better frame of mind to deal with busy workloads.
5. Hire the right people
Your people are your greatest strength. So, as your most important asset, getting the right staffing mix helps ensure the culture of your practice is healthy and happy, meaning the business will run more effectively and efficiently.
